As a public not-for-profit electric utility providing electricity to Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties, and in 2020 serving the cities of San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay, Monterey Bay Community Power (“MBCP”) is uniquely positioned to research, explore, and launch innovative, scalable programs to accelerate strategic electrification – key to reducing emissions in MBCP’s service area and meeting California’s climate goals. MBCP seeks to develop an electrification strategic plan, culminating in a 5-year program road map, covering Monterey, Santa Cruz, San Benito and San Luis Obispo Counties, designed to prioritize aggressive emission reductions while driving local economic development and stable, low electricity rates.  In addition, as the region’s transportation and building stock switches from fuel to electricity, the program map must address underserved and disadvantaged communities and community emergency preparedness and resiliency during times of power outages.
